HONTOLOGY: A MULTILINGUAL ONTOLOGY FOR THE ACCOMMODATION SECTOR IN THE TOURISM INDUSTRY

Title: HONTOLOGY: A MULTILINGUAL ONTOLOGY FOR THE ACCOMMODATION SECTOR IN THE TOURISM INDUSTRY
Authors: Chaves, Marcirio; Freitas, Larissa; Vieira, Renata
Abstract: Ontologies have been used to support both web agents reasoning and human decision making. However, ontology development is a new area and for some knowledge domains they are still rare. Although ontologies
had been developed in the context of Semantic Web, it is the Web 2.0 content that is actually pervasive on
the web. One of the properties of this content is to be multilingual, which requires multilingual resources to
deal with it. Online reviews are examples of multilingual texts provided by products and services consumers.
This paper presents a multilingual ontology for the accommodation sector. As a result, we deliver Hontology, a freely available domain-specific ontology. Hontology reuses concepts of other vocabularies such as
Dbpedia.org and Schema.org. It is useful for a wide range of applications within the accommodation sector,
including ontology-based information extraction, text annotation and information visualisation

PIRPO: An Algorithm to deal with Polarity in Portuguese Online Reviews from the Accommodation Sector

Title: PIRPO: An Algorithm to deal with Polarity in Portuguese Online Reviews from the Accommodation Sector
Authors: Chaves, Marcirio; Freitas, Larissa; Souza, Marlo; Vieira, Renata
Abstract: This paper presents the algorithm Polarity Recognizer in
Portuguese (PIRPO) to classify sentiment in online reviews. PIRPO was constructed to identify polarity in Portuguese user-generated accommodation reviews. Each review is analysed according to concepts from a domain ontology. We decompose the review in sentences in order to assign
a polarity to each concept of the ontology in the sentence. Preliminary results indicate an average F-score of 0.32 for polarity recognition.

Decision making based on Web 2.0 Data: The Small and Medium Hotel Management

Title: Decision making based on Web 2.0 Data: The Small and Medium Hotel Management
Authors: Chaves, Marcirio; Gomes, Rodrigo; Pedron, Cristiane
Abstract: The decision-making process based on the user-generated content (UGC) can be used by several industries such as movies, books, tourism and hotels. This paper presents a fine-grained analysis of UGC for small and medium hotels (SMH). We collected and analysed 1500 online reviews from 50 SMH. This data was cross-referenced in order to find patterns that could support decision-making. The findings show that Room and Service were the concepts that guests pay more attention to in their review and ratings. For the concept Location, reviewers tend to value proximity of near trade centres and points of access to public transport. Tendencies to evaluate positively the hotels using high ratings were also identified. Although reviews receive high ratings, there is a significant number of negative considerations in these reviews. This paper also points the main features which SMH managers should prioritise according to the profile of the guest. For example, we found that British guests value tea- or coffee-making facilities in the room. This research concludes that online reviews provide useful information to help the SMH management in making decisions to increase customer satisfaction and to manage existing resources efficiently.

A Multidomain and Multilingual Conceptual Data Model for Online Reviews Representation

Title: A Multidomain and Multilingual Conceptual Data Model for Online Reviews Representation
Authors: Chaves, Marcirio
Abstract: User-Generated Content (UGC) such as online reviews are freely available in the web. This kind of data has been used to support clients’ and managerial decision making in several industries, e.g. books, tourism or hospitality. However, the challenge is how to represent this information in a structured way in order to leverage on the information provided by the use of Web 2.0 applications. To deal with this challenge, models and metamodels have been used to support a set of concrete applications in several sub-domains into Computer Science and Information Systems body of knowledge (Karagiannis and Höfferer, 2006). This paper focuses on the model-driven engineering and introduces a new multidomain and multilingual conceptual data model to represent UGC. This model is based on a characterization of online reviews and aims to capture all the facets of these reviews. The characterization of the reviews’ sentences extends previous models (such as Martin and White, 2007; Ding et al., 2008; Liu, 2010). Applications build on the model proposed in this paper may allow in-depth analysis of the fine-grained and disperse knowledge existent in the UGC. Furthermore, as this model is domain-independent it can be used to represent multiple types of reviews.
